BALL SPEED → SWING SPEED
Only have ball speed?
Estimate your driver swing speed.
Then turn it into a carry card.
One reading. Three contact assumptions.
A starting point for your next range session.
Estimated driver swing speed

133.0 mph ÷ 1.4149 = 94.0 mph
Using the Average contact assumption.
Same ball speed. Different assumptions.
- Average

Inferred speed, not a launch-monitor club-speed reading. Actual carry also depends on launch, spin and conditions.
THE MISSING PIECE IS CONTACT
Ball speed isn’t
swing speed.
Smash factor = ball speed ÷ club-head speed. Rearranging it gives swing speed = ball speed ÷ smash factor. Without measured club speed, the contact factor has to be an assumption.
A more efficient strike can produce the same ball speed with a slower swing. That’s why changing the assumption changes your estimate.
This calculator reverses the same driver model as the carry card. Its three contact references are about 1.41, 1.46 and 1.49; the exact factor varies slightly with speed. The equation above shows the factor used for your result.
Only driver readings belong here. The distance card supports 50–130 mph driver swing speeds; out-of-range ball speeds are shown as unavailable, never forced into that range.
Before you take it to the range.
Which contact assumption should I choose?
Start with Average when you don’t know. Compare all three estimates rather than treating one as a precise reading. Low handicap and Tour-level describe reference strike efficiency, not a score or a diagnosis of your game.
Can I use a 7-iron ball-speed reading?
No. Smash factor changes with the club and its loft. This page uses driver references. Use a measured driver club-head speed for the carry card when one is available.
Will this tell me how far I actually hit every club?
It gives a starting estimate. The next page uses the inferred driver speed and the same contact setting to estimate 11 carries. It does not measure your individual iron speeds, launch, spin, rollout, wind or course conditions.
What gets carried into the distance card?
Your inferred driver speed, contact assumption and units. The card identifies the speed as inferred from ball speed. You can review all 11 clubs and download a PNG. Editing the driver speed or contact on that page starts a separate estimate.
